Miss Risha Chakma Appointed as New President of Guwahati Chakma Students’ Union

In an important development, the Executive Committee of the Guwahati Chakma Students’ Union (GCSU) has appointed Ms. Risha Chakma as the new President of the Union with effect from August 31, 2025. The decision was taken unanimously at a meeting held at Jayanta Nagar, at the residence of the Finance Secretary.

The move comes after the present President, Ms. Asna Chakma, was unable to continue discharging her duties effectively owing to medical reasons. In order to ensure continuity in leadership and smooth functioning of the Union’s activities, the Committee resolved to entrust the responsibilities of the President to Ms. Risha Chakma.

Under this interim arrangement, Ms. Risha Chakma will shoulder all duties, responsibilities, and functions of the President until the next General Election of the Union is conducted or until further decision of the Executive Committee.

The resolution further stated that all members and office bearers of the Union shall extend their full cooperation to the new President to ensure the effective discharge of her responsibilities during this period.

This decision marks a significant step in maintaining the stability and strength of the Guwahati Chakma Students’ Union, which has been a vital platform for the Chakma student community since its establishment in 1995.
