Lawngtlai West MLA Inspects Water Supply System, Seeks Urgent Solutions to Town’s Water Crisis

Lawngtlai, 02nd February, 2026 .
In response to the persistent drinking water shortage affecting residents of Lawngtlai town, Lawngtlai West MLA Pu C. Ngunlianchuanga conducted an on-site inspection of the water supply system at Tuilakna to understand the root causes of the problem.

The MLA was accompanied by Senior Executive Engineer of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Pu H. Lalnunthanga, along with PHED officials and representatives from the Power and Electricity Department. The inspection covered the entire water supply chain, from the intake point at Chhimtuipui to the Treatment Plant.

During the visit, Pu C. Ngunlianchuanga described the water-related hardship faced by the people of Lawngtlai as a serious and long-standing concern. He interacted with department officials to assess operational challenges and current ground realities. PHED Senior Executive Engineer Pu H. Lalnunthanga informed the MLA that irregular power supply and inadequate voltage during pumping hours remain the primary obstacles. He explained that low voltage prevents all pumps from functioning efficiently, while the absence of sufficient water storage facilities further aggravates the crisis.

According to PHED officials, Lawngtlai town requires approximately 14 lakh litres of water daily. Although water sources are available, the lack of adequate storage capacity makes it difficult to meet daily demand on a consistent basis.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the MLA stressed the need for large and efficient water storage infrastructure and called for all possible efforts to address the issue without delay. He expressed hope that the concerned authorities would take serious note of the difficulties faced by the public and move swiftly toward sustainable solutions.

Pu C. Ngunlianchuanga was accompanied during the visit by Pu Laltlawmlova, President of Lai DYCC.
