Diyun, August 29, 2025:
Braving torrential rains with unshaken determination , over 500 Chakma community members assembled at Bizu Miloni Ground, Forest Tinali, Diyun, in a powerful yet peaceful demonstration organized by the Arunachal Pradesh Chakma Students’ Union (APCSU). With unwavering voices, they raised a collective call for a transparent, inclusive, and just land survey — one that leaves no Chakma family behind.
The protest, led with resolve by APCSU leaders, concluded with the submission of a comprehensive memorandum to the Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh through the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Bordumsa. The document highlighted urgent community concerns and laid out clear demands to safeguard the rights of displaced and marginalized Chakma families.
Key Demands of the Memorandum
1️⃣ Survey of Flood-Affected & Eroded Villages – Large portions of Chakma settlement lands have been lost to the shifting course of the Dihing River, leaving families landless. APCSU urged the government to prioritize these areas so that the suffering of displaced families is duly recorded and addressed.
2️⃣ Inclusion of All Villages – The Union stressed that the survey must not discriminate by excluding any Chakma-inhabited village, whether officially recognized earlier or not. Fairness demands inclusivity.
3️⃣ Transparency & Access to Records – APCSU demanded open access to survey templates, registers, and data collection formats. Copies of final survey reports for each village should also be provided to ensure accountability and accuracy.
4️⃣ Representation in the Process – The Union insisted on the formal participation of Chakma representatives at every stage — from field verification to final submission — so that the voices of affected families are genuinely heard.
Despite the relentless rain, the protest witnessed active participation from villagers, student leaders, and community representatives, a testament to the community’s unity and determination.
Addressing the gathering, the APCSU President remarked:
“This protest is not against the survey itself, but against the possibility of it being selective or unfair. We seek transparency, justice, and inclusion for every Chakma family who has suffered displacement and erosion.”
The memorandum has been officially forwarded to the state government, and the Chakma community now awaits the government’s response with hope and determination.
