Be DC for a Day” Initiative Launched in Lunglei to Inspire Young Mind

 Lunglei, August 26, 2025:

In a remarkable effort to inspire and empower students, Lunglei District Deputy Commissioner Pi Navneet Mann has announced the launch of the innovative program “Be Deputy Commissioner for a Day.” The initiative, set to be held on August 27, 2025, will provide school students of Lunglei town with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to step into the shoes of a DC and experience the responsibilities of public service.

The announcement came during a consultative meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner, attended by senior DC officials, Education and I&PR officers, District MJA leaders, and working journalists from Lunglei. The meeting laid out detailed plans for how the program will unfold.

As part of the initiative, six students will be selected from nine different schools in Lunglei town. Beginning at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, these students will formally assume symbolic charge of the DC’s office. They will not only be introduced to the day-to-day functioning of the Deputy Commissioner but will also accompany officials on field visits, interact with various departments, and engage directly with citizens and media representatives.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Navneet Mann highlighted that the initiative is aligned with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan campaign. She explained that the program aims to protect young people from the lure of substance abuse while instilling values of leadership, responsibility, and social service. “Through this exposure, students will gain a clear understanding of governance and the role of the administration. We hope this experience will serve as a source of encouragement and motivation, shaping them into responsible citizens and future leaders,” she said.

The selected students will also visit ongoing developmental works across the district, witnessing firsthand how policies and decisions translate into actions that benefit the community. The day’s events will conclude with interactive sessions where the students, like a true Deputy Commissioner, will engage with officials, the public, and members of the press.

This unique initiative by the Lunglei District Administration is expected to leave a lasting impact on the students, broadening their vision and nurturing the next generation of leaders.
