Unity Council Expresses Anger Over Absence of Minority Representation Among Newly Appointed Judges

Dhaka: On August 25, 2025, a total of 25 new judges were appointed as Additional Judges of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court. Among them, 9 are judicial officers, 9 are lawyers, and 7 are law officers.

Despite the presence of many qualified personalities from religious and ethnic minority communities in all the mentioned sectors, it is deeply regrettable that not a single representative from the country’s 10 percent religious and ethnic minority population has been included among these 25 newly appointed judges.

On behalf of the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, its three presidents — Prof. Dr. Nim Chandra Bhowmik, Ushaton Talukder, and Nirmal Rozario — along with Acting General Secretary Monindra Kumar Nath, have expressed strong condemnation, anger, and protest over this exclusion.

On Tuesday (August 26), Acting General Secretary Monindra Kumar Nath issued a press statement conveying the Council’s protest.
