Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma today announced that, under the directive of Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, a landmark digital transformation programme is being carried out across 100 schools in the hill tracts using Starlink technology.
“Multimedia classrooms have already been introduced, and online activities in these schools are expected to be fully operational within the next 90 days,” Supradip Chakma said while meeting three Scandinavian diplomats at his office in the Chittagong Hill Tracts Heritage Preservation and Research Center, Bailey Road, Dhaka.
The diplomats included Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh Hakon Harald Gulbrandsen, Ambassador of the Royal Danish Embassy Christian Brix Moller (Chris), and Second Secretary and Head of Politics at the Danish Embassy Olle Landin.
Focus on Sustainable Development
The discussions centered on sustainable development and multidimensional cooperation in the hill tracts. Supradip Chakma warmly welcomed the diplomats’ keen interest and thoughtful ideas for development in the region.
He underscored that quality education, improved livelihoods, biodiversity conservation, and agricultural modernization are crucial pillars for sustainable progress in the CHT. These initiatives, he said, will stimulate the local economy and generate meaningful employment opportunities.
Preserving Culture and Heritage
The Adviser also emphasized the government’s commitment to preserving the languages and scripts of ethnic communities. He highlighted initiatives such as the publication of language-based books at the primary level and specialized training for local language teachers.
He further addressed the importance of utilizing Kaptai Lake for local benefit, improving livelihoods, tackling water scarcity, and ensuring environmentally balanced economic growth in the hill tracts.
Commitment to Democracy and Human Rights
Supradip Chakma reiterated that the present government is firmly committed to democratic values and human rights and continues to work tirelessly to safeguard them.
The Scandinavian diplomats, in turn, raised topics including Bangladesh’s upcoming general elections and the role of international cooperation. They expressed their views on the UN Human Rights Office and pledged full support to the Government of Bangladesh in ensuring a smooth and democratic transition.
Reassuring the envoys, Supradip Chakma said that relevant institutions are working closely to guarantee free, fair, and participatory elections in line with the schedule announced by the Election Commission.
